tapo cameras

The Tapo Camera Family is a new camera series produced by TP-Link. It consists of three types of cameras: the Slim, the Motorized, and the Outdoor cameras. As designers, we explored and defined a shared design language across the 3 cameras, while each of them remains a distinct look for its purpose.

The SLIM Camera

The Slim camera is versatile to fit in your environments and capture any angle. It is designed to be placed on a tabletop or on the wall.

When not in use, it can be folded into a compact cylinder for travel or privacy purpose. Minimizing its volume also helps to reduce packaging and transportation cost.

The MOTORIZED Camera

The Motorized Camera arrives to your home neatly packaged in a quiet cylindrical form, with its camera tucked into its body to indicate its resting state. The moment it is awakened, this slumbering soldier transforms into a stoic sentinel as it rotates its head above its chiseled shoulders and stands at the ready to capture enemy action in your home.

The OUTDOOR Camera

The Outdoor Camera is a wireless camera that is powered by a small battery pack. The black base has line textures to indicate a twist cap for battery removal.

The PROCESS

There are many home security cameras out there. How can we make our product stand out with a unique design language?

We took some of the top design languages and built them in CAD with the actual internal components.

The TP-Link team made several appearance models of the top design concepts. Through this process, the team has gained a better understanding of the physical dimensions of the designs and identified areas for improvement.

We moved forward with a cylindrical shape because that is the most honest and compact form. The two-tone color scheme differentiates our cameras from others in the market.
